You may have noticed new photos of me here and on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. I finally took the plunge and had a professional photo shoot done with StudioStar Knox City. It was sooo much fun and I’m pretty thrilled with the final product.
This is absolutely not a sponsored post, I just loved the whole experience with StudioStar and wanted to tell you about it. I’ve been putting it off for so long. Now I want to go back and get our family photo done as well!
Last September I wrote all about why I wasn’t going to update my profile picture. Then I caught sight of a makeover and photo shoot package at the silent auction at Mr 6’s school fete. It was a fundraiser. For a good cause. So I bid. And won!
The styling session
About a week prior to the photo shoot I went in for a 20 minute styling session. The consultant helped me figure out what style of photographs I wanted – no, not raunchy; no, not glamour – and we chatted about outfits and props and what to bring on the day.
Make up and hair
I arrived with a clean face, clean hair and 4 hours with no other commitments. A professional make up artist did my face and hair. I wanted a natural look – so people would actually recognise me – but you can go as glam as you like.
I brought 4 outfits with me. The photographer and make up artist helped me choose which ones to use. We settled on two and the make up artist changed my lip stick during a break in the shoot so it would match the next outfit.
Smile for the camera: Photo shoot
I have no idea how to pose for photos, except that I know you’re meant to look up a little, and stand slightly off-centre to the camera.
Fortunately, the photographer knew exactly what she was doing. I just did what I was told to!
We used a couple of different coloured backdrops and a bunch of different props including a couch and chair.
Grab a cuppa
After the shoot I was required to go and enjoy a cup of coffee somewhere in the shopping centre (ah, the hardship!) while the digital pics were processed.
Choose the photos and the package
I got to sit down – with another cuppa – and run through a slideshow of photos of ME. From about 60 shots I had to narrow it down to ONE.
Fortunately there were plenty I really didn’t like but once we got down to about 10 shots it was really hard to choose.
I ended up opting for the next photo package up and getting two shots instead. All packages come with prints and digital images.
You can also choose whether you want light, moderate or heavy editing. They can smooth all your wrinkles out or airbrush you into supermodel-dom (okay, maybe not that drastic…). I chose ‘light’ editing – they airbrushed the redness on my decolletage. Again, I wanted photos that looked like me – albeit me all-dressed-up and with professional make up.
Picking up the prints and digital images
It takes about 4 weeks to get the final prints. I’ve now got two 8 x 10 prints and a CD with the digital images of both.
If you’re thinking of using them for work purposes, you definitely can. StudioStar retain the copyright but they’ll sign a release for almost any purpose.
You can also give them permission to use your pics to show others. My photo is here on the StudioStar Facebook page 🙂
